I wish I didn't have to think of titles

I'm not feeling well today and I hope I can go home not long after lunchtime. First I have to drop more letters off to the Dunkin Donuts managers who don't like to respond to donation requests. Our area director is visiting us this week, and tomorrow she's coming to work with me to help serve lunch, except that there's going to be a volunteer group of about a dozen people (they're a traveling, good-will singing group? I don't understand) and then Thursday and Friday there are lunchtime volunteer groups also. We're going to Vermont this weekend, and then everything else for the next few weeks will be prep for the Thanksgiving meal. Oh! One of the volunteers from one church's dinner group brought a ton of sweaters and coats yesterday- it made me so happy that I felt like it was Christmas. There are even some hats and gloves too, and people have been asking for these things constantly. And we're hoping the other dinner group and holiday volunteers will bring things like socks and deodorant too.

I handed out participant surveys yesterday and the results were a little depressing...the spelling on all of them is really awful, and under the question What fun activities would you like to see offered here? one of the clients put "Learning to spell." But it seems like in general they'd like the things I'm thinking of doing. And a lot of people answered that the main reason they come here is for the company and comraderie, and that the staff is respectful and kind, and that they love the food, so those things were nice. They all want bus tokens offered, but that's up to the church upstairs and they decided to stop giving them a long time ago.

Yesterday was our first movie day, and even though it took about an hour for the new vcr/dvd to get figured out, and a lot of people actually showed up and I made them popcorn and gave them cans of soda (I think both of these things are a big treat for them) and they seemed pretty happy. Plus, showing the movie kept everyone amused and quiet. I made a "Word of the Day" poster on the wall to help with vocabulary, but everything I looked at on-line seemed way over their heads or insultingly easy (then again, a lot of them can't spell things like "anything" and "because"). Today's word is languor.
