new things
I was trying to write yesterday, but the site wasn't working for some reason! I've realized that what excites me the most is starting new activities at the meal program- the winter hours haven't been too filled with people yet (except for the office hours and the mealtime itself) because it's barely been cold outside at all. But I know that when it starts getting colder, more people will spend all of the time between 10 am till 2 pm (and 3 pm till 7 pm on dinner nights) in the dining room, and I want clients to have other options besides just sitting at the tables- we have lots of checkerboards and chess sets (and I brought in Scrabble and Guess Who- I'm hoping someone will play Guess Who with me soon!), I set up a voter registration table so that some people can register in time for the mayoral election, Evan's going to help me make posters so people can make guesses about the outcome of the World Series and we'll give out prizes, there might be a TV hiding somewhere so that we can have movie afternoons with popcorn, and I'm going to get some more arts & crafts- some people just like to draw but also we were thinking of having the seniors at the weekend programs make Christmas cards to send to the troops, and maybe some clients here would like to do that too. Yesterday I went to Michaels (I was so happy to find one here!) and bought Halloween and Christmas ornaments for the seniors to decorate- I think the arts & crafts will be nice to have at the location where the clients don't like playing bingo and don't speak English. I might not be able to have a long conversation with them but at least we can color together!

It sounds like you're doing a lot of great things for the people in Hartford! I'm so proud of you, Nessy.
