- I left my soup kitchen keys at home.
- I was excited about two new volunteers starting today and coming a few times a week because they would be able to help me out a lot, but one of the cooks managed to offend one of them badly enough that she came in my office almost in tears and said she was leaving and never coming back again.
- I had to leave right before lunch (which was very very busy since it's the very end of the month) to go to a meeting I had no idea about and didn't feel useful attending.
- A giant can of tomato sauce exploded all over me- it was in my eyes, all over my white shirts and new jeans, and on my shoes
- No one was at work with me at 3 when we usually open the doors for dinner, so I put up a sign that said we'd open around 4:30 when my supervisor came in. At 4:31, they started banging on the door. When I opened it and apologized, a client who is usually one of the sweetest ones ripped my sign off the door, crumpled it up, and threw it past me into the garbage can.
- The dinner group didn't show up, and we were scrambling to come up with dinner and drinks and dessert for seventy people.
- Both my phone and my ipod are barely working!
- Right after we got home, there was a fight outside of our house that sounded bad enough that I called 911.
BUT, aside from those things, everything is going really well. We had a really fun time in New Jersey this weekend, seeing my family for a little bit and going to the Halloween party the Newark house threw. Today Meredith visited me at work for hot chocolate and we are so excited for Annie to visit us this weekend. Last night we visited our Jesuit priest friends in Storrs (where UConn is) and they made us the most amazing dinner- potato leek soup and mushroom risoto and a torte with roasted eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes and onions, and gingerbread cake with vanilla ice cream and blueberries.
Tomorrow we're all going to a haunted house that kids from Keri's work are putting on, and then maybe some of us will go out downtown to another Halloween party. Unfortunately, there was no candy at the food bank yesterday like I was hoping there would be, but there are some Hershey's kisses and apples to give to the clients, and one of the cooks and I are making cake with orange frosting and I'm going to decorate the dining room in the morning.
